Frequently Asked Questions
about the Forney Crime Control & Prevention District election.
Why was the Crime Control & Prevention District (CCPD) referendum placed on the November ballot?
The CCPD referendum is a community-driven effort. It was placed on the ballot at the request of the Forney police chief and families, senior citizens, community leaders, and business owners from across our city to give residents the opportunity to vote on a new funding public safety funding option that does not increase our sales or property tax rates.
What will be the tax impact if Forney voters approve the CCPD?
If approved by voters, the CCPD will NOT increase our sales tax rate. The CCPD will be funded by the reallocation of one-fourth of one cent of our current sales tax that is currently going to economic development efforts. Due to recent tax cuts approved by the City Council, our property tax rate will be approximately 32% lower than five years ago.
Will the CCPD be funded solely by Forney taxpayers?
No. A large portion of sales taxes in our city are paid by people from surrounding cities and unincorporated areas of the county who shop and dine in many parts of Forney.
What will the Forney CCPD fund?
In general terms, funding from the CCPD will pay for new police officers, increased patrols, crime prevention initiatives, gang intervention programs, and updated law enforcement technology. For more specific information click HERE to review the Crime Control & Prevention District Strategic Plan.
What will the CCPD mean for community policing and crime prevention efforts?
Looking at best practices from police departments across Texas, the CCPD will provide Forney law enforcement professionals the opportunity and funding to enhance proven crime fighting & prevention programs. The CCPD will also provide our police officers and detectives with the funding to implement tough-on-crime measures and advance investigative efforts to stop violent crime, theft, juvenile crime, and gang activity before it happens.
Is the CCPD referendum in response to the surge in population growth in Forney?
With or without our fast growth, Forney leaders are always looking for new ways to protect our families, schools, and businesses. Of course, since we live in one of the fastest growing counties in the country, CCPD funding will allow the city to recruit, hire, and train new officers to keep up with our growth.
How will the CCPD impact efforts to reduce juvenile crime?
With protecting our children from violent crime being a top priority of the police department, the CCPD will fund additional tools, resources, and new officers to implement new crime-fighting and intervention efforts that keep our children safe and curtail juvenile crime.
How will the CCPD impact funding for other cities services?
This reallocation of a portion of sales tax revenue specifically for law enforcement efforts will also free up funds in our general revenue fund that could be used in the future, based on the input of our community, to improve roads, parks, fire response efforts, or property tax rate reductions.
Who will manage the Forney CCPD?
A district is governed by a board of seven directors appointed by the City Council in the same manner as provided for the selection of the initial temporary directors. Board members serve staggered two-year terms, or the City Council may fill the role of the Board of Directors. They would be appointed if the District is created following the election.
Will the CCPD change how the city attracts economic development to our community?
The city will continue with our robust efforts to attract new business and jobs to our city. The director of the Forney Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has reviewed the impact of removing one-fourth of one cent of our current sales tax that is currently going to economic development and confirmed the EDC will remain competitive in offering incentives to business and corporations looking to grow and expand in our city.
Will this referendum be on the same ballot as the Presidential race?
Yes. You can vote for or against the CCPD referendum located at the end of the ballot.
